Belfast Area Overview
The City of Belfast is a working coastal community. Its blue and white-collar working classes currently
coexist with community of craftspeople and artists. The City has maintained some of its blue-collar character,
although the arrival of Bank of America has brought many white-collar jobs and portions of the City have been transformed
into a more culturally oriented community. The cultural life of the City of Belfast offers a rich variety of activities
such as art galleries, coffee houses, theaters and numerous festivals. The Natural beauty and physical
topography include Penobscot Bay, offshore islands, protected harbors, rolling hills and of course, the waterfront.
Belfast is the largest community in Waldo County, population 6,680, and it is also the county seat. Belfast is
less than a 2-hour drive from Portland, the economic center for the State of Maine, 45 minutes from Augusta, the
state capital, 3 1/2 hours from Boston and a half-day's drive from both New York City to the south and Montreal,
